Ealing Common Residents Say No To Parking Plans

Petition to Council over new parking charges

Residents of Ealing Common are opposing plans to introduce pay-by-phone parking on the Warwick Road extension across Ealing Common.

At last week’s Ealing Common Ward Forum, 34 residents signed a petition objecting to the Council’s proposal to install parking bays and charge £2.10 for a full day’s parking.

They believe that the current plans will not solve the problem of increased commuter parking and caravans which now permanently line a section of Warwick Road.

The say single yellow lines, would allow for periods of free parking and deter caravans and other vehicles from parking for multiple days.

Following the meeting, Councillor Jon Ball sent the signatures as a formal objection, and asked the Council to reconsider their plan.

Local Resident and Ward Forum Attendee Humaira Sanders said:

“We are fed up with caravans and commuters permanently parking along this road. It’s not fair on local residents and families who want to enjoy the Common, but have nowhere to park.

“The Council’s proposal to charge £2 per day will not work – it just means that caravans and commuters will have to pay a nominal fee to take up the space legitimately and permanently. We want single yellow lines, and no parking between 9am-10am, and 3pm-4pm.”

Liberal Democrat Councillor Jon Ball commented:

“It is outrageous for the Council to ignore the views of residents and push through their parking bay plan. Single yellow lines would solve the problem – preventing caravans and commuter parking, and allowing residents to park at certain times and enjoy the Common.

“I had already asked for single yellow lines, as this is what that previous Ward Forum had agreed. But typically, the Labour-run Council are more interested in generating revenue than implementing sensible proposals that benefit local residents.

“I will continue to fight to get the voices of Ealing Common residents heard, and hope the scheme is reconsidered.”
