Cinema - False Alarm

Work has NOT started but the compulsory purchase of the site may be a step closer

A flurry of excitement was created this week on the social networking site, twitter, after workmen were spotted at Ealing's derelict cinema.

Was building work actually going to start?

Sadly it turned out to be a false alarm.

Apparently the men were taking down scaffolding because of fears of people breaking into portakabins (beds in portacabins now?)

On Tuesday Empire said: '' We can confirm no work has been taking place on site today.  Empire Cinemas is currently still in the preparatory process and work will begin in due course.''

Such reassurances have of course been heard many times before and are wearing rather thin...

Yesterday Ealing Councillor Jon Ball tweeted that the ''Scrutiny Committee has decided to recommend to Cabinet compulsory purchase of Ealing cinema site as no sign of action.''
