Elderly Couple Killed After Breaking Down on A40


Police appealing for witnesses

An elderly couple who broke down on the A40 near the Polish War memorial have been killed after their car was hit by a lorry.

They were waiting for help on the eastbound carriageway of the busy road in Northolt, when the accident happened.

Emergency services attended the scene at midnight on Thursday but the couple were pronounced dead. The husband was aged 80, his wife, 76.

Officers believe they know who they are but are waiting to make a formal identification before releasing their details.

Post-mortem tests are expected to be carried out on Monday.

The lorry driver has been bailed by police to return in July.
