Crackdown on visa irregularities
Eight men from India have been arrested for being in the UK illegally following a UK Border Agency raid in Southall.
Acting on intelligence officers visited a residential address on Harlington Road on the morning of Friday 3 August, carrying out checks on those living there.
They arrested five men, all aged between 24 and 48 who were all in the UK illegally having overstayed their visas.
A 30-year-old man was arrested for breaching his visa conditions, a 31-year-old was arrested for entering the UK illegally, while a 28-year-old was a failed asylum seeker with no right to be in the UK.
Four of the eight were detained pending their removal from the UK. The remaining four were granted immigration bail and will have to report to the UK Border Agency while steps are taken to remove them.
Assistant Director Sarah Burton, from the UK Border Agency, said:
“This was the latest in a series of operations in Southall, and UK Border Agency officers are carrying out raids like this across west London almost every day.
“We continue to gather intelligence about people who remain in the UK in breach of their visa conditions and we are taking action against those not entitled to be here.
“My message to those who have no right to be in the UK is that you must leave the country. If they refuse, we will enforce their removal.”
