A former teacher at an Ealing School has been jailed for 21 months for the historical sexual abuse of a former pupil.
Richard Alston, 70 of Vinery Road, Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk was sentenced today, Monday, 28 September, at Southwark Crown Court.
He was found guilty on Thursday, 20 August of gross indecency with a child and sentenced to 12 months. He was also convicted of indecent assault on a child and jailed for 21 months. The sentences are to run concurrently.
Alston was a teacher at Cavendish School in W13 (closed in 2002) between 1975 and 1980. The victim was one of his pupils.
Between 14 February 1978 and 13 February 1980, the victim, who was aged under 14 years at the time, was assaulted by Alston at the defendant's home in Greenford.
In 2013, the victim came forward to police to report the abuse and an investigation was launched by officers from Operation Cayacos - a strand of the wider Operation Fairbank.
On 20 August 2013, Alston was arrested in connection with the investigation. He was subsequently charged on 15 July 2014.
Detective Sergeant James Townly, from the Sexual Offences, Exploitation and Child Abuse Command, said: "Alston abused his position of trust to abuse someone who should have been under his care. We take allegations of sexual assault seriously and will do everything in our power to bring these cases to the courts - no matter what the passage of time."
Alston was found not guilty of six counts of indecent assault; and there was a hung jury in relation to a further two offences.
