Hanger Lane is one of London's top ten congested roads
A
new survey has put Hanger Lane as one of the top ten most congested roads
in London.
The survey carried out by business campaign group was based on responses
from 47,000 drivers. The High Road joins the Hangar Lane Gyratory and
Hammersmith Broadway as one of the most congested roads in London.
Blackwall Tunnel is London’s most congested road. The survey also reveals
that two of the hotspots are in the congestion charging zone and that
none of the other top 10 hotspots are in the proposed western extension.
Critics have claimed that the Mayor's massive transport investment plans
are gearing investment towards the east of the London whereas most of
the major transport bottlenecks are in the West. Ironically the one major
transport project planned for London by Transport for London is the West
London Transit Scheme which will divert traffic from the Uxbridge Road
onto Chiswick High Road
Traffic congestion in London as a whole is also twice as bad as in other
major cities say London First.
London First has called for TfL to tackle urgently the 10 hotspots.
The Top Ten were:
Blackwall Tunnel and approach
Trafalgar Square
Euston Road at Kings Cross
The Strand
Archway gyratory
North Circular Road between Golders Green Road and Falloden Way
North Circular Road between Hanger Lane and Gunnersbury Avenue
Hammersmith gyratory
Chiswick High Road
Wandsworth one-way system
Jo Valentine, Chief Executive, London First said, "If London is to
remain a world city and the economic engine of the UK, TfL should implement
a four year programme of traffic management solutions, including a review
of traffic light timings, and build on the good work that has already
been done by its traffic management unit. This would be a better use of
time and money than extending the congestion zone westwards.”
