Inspectors report favourably again on Sybil Elgar School

The National Autistic Society’s Sybil Elgar School in Southall, Ealing, has been rated by Ofsted as ‘outstanding’ for a second consecutive time.
A recent inspection found the school to be a place where students ‘receive an exceptional education’ and ‘arrive full of energy and enthusiasm’.
The charity’s school has been running for over 50 years and has a performing arts specialism. Teachers offer a holistic and personalised education to autistic children and young people aged 4 ½ to 22 years, with small class sizes up to a maximum of eight. The school says it has an international reputation for innovation and offers progressive approach to education within a caring and safe environment.
Inspectors said ‘staff work with compassion and kindness’ and ’have the highest expectations for each pupil, helping them to problem-solve, become more independent and achieve highly.’
They found teachers were ‘dedicated, hard-working and relentless in seeking the best for all pupils’ and that ‘pupils are taught a high-quality curriculum by staff with expertise in working with autistic pupils.’ The inspectors added: "Parents are uniformly positive about the school and how it has transformed the lives of their children and their families."
The school was rated as ‘outstanding’ in all six areas of inspection. This is the second time it has been rated as such - having been awarded this rating following a previous inspection in November 2017.
Over 70% of children on the autism spectrum attend mainstream school, often with support. Others need more specialist support, like that offered by the National Autistic Society’s Sybil Elgar School.
