A motorcyclist has died in a traffic collision on Hanger Lane this Monday morning (11 June) leading to the closure of the North Circular Road.

A man in his twenties was hit by a BMW car near the junction of the North Circular and Corringway at around 6.14am.

Despite the best efforts of the emergency services the victim was pronounced dead at the scene. Although he has yet to be formally identified his next-of-kin have been informed.

Detectives from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU) are investigating and are appealing for witnesses. The driver of the car was not arrested.

Northbound traffic on the A406 was reported to be slow on approach to Queens Drive. Southbound traffic on the A406 is slow towards the Hanger Lane gyratory with tailbacks to the junction with the Harrow Road. Significant delays are expected.

The closures are in both directions and TfL say restrictions may in place for a long time.

Bus routes 112 and 483 diverted via Uxbridge Road, Steyne Road, Horn Lane and Western Avenue, missing out stops Hanger Lane.

Detective Sergeant Cheryl Frost, from the SCIU, said: "We have spoken to the BMW driver and the drivers of two lorries regarding this collision. However, the incident occurred on a very busy road and I’m confident there will be other witnesses who we have not yet spoken to. I’d urge anyone who witnessed this collision, or has dash cam footage, to get in touch with us as a matter of urgency."
