Local Business Nailed in Court

Fine for W5 beauty firm that was operating without a licence

An Ealing business will have to pay out more than £4,000 following an Ealing Council prosecution.

Nirouge Limited, of 6, Springbridge Road, Ealing W5 appeared at Ealing Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, 7 July and was fined £3,000 for two offences of carrying out specialist beauty treatments without a license.

The company was also ordered to pay £1,000 towards the council’s costs and £15 victim surcharge.

Nirouge Limited was prosecuted following an investigation by the council’s Regulatory Services team, which began in September 2010. The salon was found to be operating without a license for specialist beauty treatments which include manicures tanning and massage. An undercover licensing officer visited the salon on two occasions, posing as a customer, and at both times was given a manicure by a therapist who was not qualified.

Councillor Ranjit Dheer, cabinet member for Safer Communities, said:

''This trader showed no concern for the health and well being of its customers. It allowed unqualified staff to administer treatments and failed to take the advice of the regulatory services team when they began their investigation. We will always advise traders on what they need to do to comply with regulations, but will take enforcement action against any trader who continues to break the law.''
