Walking in Circles

Community turn out en masse for road protest

Around 150 people stopped the traffic in Hanwell yesterday (Tuesday 9th November) protesting over a dangerous crossing.

The 'Action Half Hour' at the junction of Uxbridge Road and Church Road saw members of the local community walk in a circle around the crossing several times.

They're opposing plans by Ealing Council to introduce raised tables as a means of traffic calming instead of including a Green Man pedestrian phase at the traffic lights.

The initiative was organised by Hanwell Community Forum and the group West London Citizens (WLC).

Marzena Cichon, spokesperson for West London Citizens, said: “The Council has been asked to take action on this dangerous crossing for years. Parents are afraid that a child will have to die before appropriate action is taken.”

WLC will pursue the matter with Councillor Bassam Mahfouz at their forthcoming assembly meeting on November 18.
