Halifax has announced that its Greenford branch at 41 The Broadway (UB6 9PQ) will close on 16 June. The decision forms part of a wider programme of branch reductions across the Lloyds Banking Group, which owns Halifax, Lloyds Bank and Bank of Scotland.

The Greenford closure is one of six Halifax branches in London scheduled to shut in 2026. Another affected site is the long-established Halifax branch on King Street in Hammersmith, which will close on 28 May. Lloyds Bank itself has confirmed eight further London closures, underscoring the scale of the group’s retreat from traditional high-street banking.

For Greenford residents, the loss of the Broadway branch removes one of the area’s few remaining full-service banking locations. Lloyds TSB continues to operated at 179–183 Greenford Road. Santander closed its Greenford branch on 24 June 2025.

Its closure will leave a noticeable gap in a town centre already grappling with changes to its retail mix and the pressures facing high-street services.

The announcement comes against a backdrop of accelerating branch closures across the UK. Banks cite declining footfall, rising digital usage and the high cost of maintaining large physical networks. Lloyds Banking Group has been among the most active in reshaping its estate, with Halifax, Lloyds and Bank of Scotland all reducing their footprints as customers shift to online and mobile banking.

Industry analysts point to a combination of factors driving the trend: the majority of routine transactions now take place digitally; maintaining older buildings is increasingly expensive; and banks are investing instead in call centres, mobile banking vans and shared “banking hubs”. While these alternatives can help fill the gap, community groups warn that they do not fully replace the convenience and reassurance of a staffed local branch.

Halifax customers in Greenford will be directed to alternative branches elsewhere in including the chains other branch in Southall, though for many this will mean longer journeys and reduced accessibility.
