World Cup Flag Ban Causes Public Outcry

St George Flags banned but company make concession

Ealing bin collectors who can't fly the flag during the World Cup can wear hats instead.

May Gurney - which operates the licence, had told refuse workers flags will be removed because of 'health and safety reasons' and 'inconsistency of the corporate identity'.

The news has caused a public outcry and many people - including Ealing North Labour MP Stephen Pound - say the decision is 'bonkers'.

EalingToday.co.uk has just received this statement from the company:

'' "We understand people want to support their teams during the world cup and following discussions with the GMB May Gurney is allowing staff to wear baseball caps during the tournament.

"The GMB have offered the same advice to other waste management and environmental services."
