Developers to be told to withdraw their current application
Current plans for a high rise development at Reynard Mills on the Ealing/Hounslow border may not go ahead following a massive public campaign.
The trading estate on Windmill Road (which straddles W5/TW8) used to be the home to offices of the BBC and other companies but has been left empty over recent years as firms have moved out.
Property investors Invista Real Estate wanted to turn the site into a tower block development, housing 1,000 more people.
A massive public campaign led by local residents who formed the Windmill Road Action Group has seen hundreds of objections being sent to Hounslow Council.
Councillors from Ealing's Northfield ward sent their concerns about the development claiming it was 'overbearing, unneighbourly in size and form and.. out of character with the .. local streetscene.'
Councillor David Millican says:
" I am pleased to be able to tell you that Hounslow Planning Officers will be asking the developer to withdraw the application, as it is a gross verdevelopment for the area.
'' If they do not withdraw their application then Hounslow Planning Officers will use their delegated powers to refuse the current application, and so it will not need to come to Hounslow's Planning Committee.
'' I would like to thank the many local residents, who wrote with their objections. This undoubtedly drove home the strength of feeling by the community.''
Brentford Ward Councillor Ruth Cadbury commented:
"This issue has as it has given us one of the biggest "post-bags" we have had on a local issue for a very long time, so I hope people can rest assured that whatever happens on that site, we will ensure that it is in scale and keeping with the local area".
James Guest, from the Windmill Road Action Group and Ealing Fields Residents Association says it's not over yet:
''While this is of course excellent news, we are waiting to see if the developer will withdraw the application and submit a revised scheme or initiate a planning appeal. In either case we will still need to do a lot of detailed preparatory work.''
