Teenager at Old Bailey accused of murder
A 16-year-old boy accused of killing Ealing pensioner Richard Mannington Bowes has denied murder but pleaded guilty to burglary and violent disorder .
The teenager, who cannot be named for legal reasons, allegedly punched Mr Mannington Bowes in the face, as he was trying to put out fires during the riots in August - causing him to fall backwards and hit his head on the ground.
The Old Bailey heard that the 68-year-old was attacked at about 10.30pm on Monday August 8 near his home in Haven Green after being surrounded by a group of youths. He died three days later.
The boy admitted burglary on 8 August at William Hill, Tesco Express, Blockbuster and Fatboys Thai restaurant.
He appeared with his mother who is accused of perverting the course of justice by concealing or destroying her son's clothes. She was remanded on conditional bail
The teenager has been remanded in custody both will face trial on 12 March.
