William Hogarth School wins OFSTED praise
Inspectors found an 'improving' school with a 'positive ethos'
The William Hogarth School was established in Autumn Term 2001. At that time it had pupils from Nursery to Year 2, and in each subsequent September has added a year as the original pupils have moved up the school.
By September
2005 it will be a full one-form-entry Primary School, but as yet no pupils
have taken KS2 SATs and so the school doesn't appear in the league tables.
OFSTED inspected the school in October 2003 and said it was a "satisfactory
and improving school" with a "positive ethos, good pastoral
care and where every child is treated as an individual" The inspectors
found 96% of lessons to be at least Satisfactory; when the report becomes

The school's vision statement says that the school "aims to be a
community where our children acquire a love of learning and the tools
with which to learn". As befits a school bearing William Hogarth's
name, the visual arts are an important part of the approach to that vision,
with classes named after artists and links established with local artists,
most notably Sir Peter Blake.
The school occupies spacious premises at the end of Duke Road, adjacent
to St Mary's RC School, and the two schools pursue joint projects from
time to time. The school also offers an extended care programme which
provides before and after school care at a reasonable cost.
