An outdoor exhibition by artist and ethnographer Anna Jochymek will be on display in Brentford this October, featuring photographic portraits that explore themes of freedom, migration, and identity.

Titled Free. Her, the exhibition will be open to the public at Brentford Market Place on Friday 24 October from 10am to 5pm, and at Bell Square in Hounslow on Saturday 25 October from 11am to 5pm. It presents twenty large-format portraits created in collaboration with Polish migrant women living in the borough.

Following its public display, the portraits will be archived at Gunnersbury Park Museum, contributing to the borough’s visual record of migration and community life.

The project draws on personal conversations between the artist and participants, who shared their experiences of migration, empowerment, and belonging in the UK. The resulting images and accompanying testimonies reflect the diverse realities of women navigating life in a new country, offering insight into how freedom is understood and expressed across different cultural contexts.

Anna Jochymek, originally from Poland and now based in London, works across visual arts and ethnographic research, often focusing on themes of displacement and social identity.

Free. Her forms part of the Future Arts Centres initiative Our Freedom: Then and Now, a nationwide programme commemorating the 80th anniversary of the end of the Second World War.

The wider project is supported by Arts Council England and the UK Government, with a total investment of £2 million in creative commissions across the country.
