Where to recycle your tree - the full list

 

Ealing residents are being urged to give their Christmas trees a second lease of life by recycling them.

During January people can recycle real Christmas trees at 18 different parks and open spaces around the borough as well as at the three re-use and recycling centres.

Trees taken to the parks will be shredded and composted and used as fertiliser in the borough’s parks and open spaces.

Cllr Will Brooks, cabinet member for transport and environment said: “Last year green-minded residents helped us to recycle nearly 10,000 trees. We’re urging everyone with a real tree to either replant them in their garden or recycle them and help us keep our parks and open spaces looking beautiful in 2007.”

Residents are asked to remove all decorations and pots and leave trees at the entrances to the sites listed below:

The fortnightly garden waste home collection service is not able to collect Christmas trees. However, residents are reminded that they can recycle their garden waste using free pink sacks available from all libraries and the council’s customer service centre, Perceval House, 14-16 Uxbridge Road, Ealing. Alternatively residents can order sacks including free postage from ECT Recycling on 020 8813 3193/3194 or online at www.ectrecycling.co.uk/ealing.

Leaving discarded trees on the borough’s streets is considered fly-tipping. This offence can now result in a fine of up to £50,000 and/or 12 months imprisonment.

Ealing Council do not have advice for those of us who find lugging our trees through the streets a little tricky. Loading them into the car can also be difficult as pine needles will get everywhere. In neighbouring Hounslow, residents can take advantage of an offer from the Council to pick up Christmas trees. Perhaps this may be something we can look forward to at New Year 2008.
