A series of physical and commercial changes are underway at North Acton Square, with the stated aim of creating a more active and inclusive public space. The development includes six new retail units, improved lighting, landscaping, and the addition of a dedicated community structure referred to as a “village hut.”
The new units will host a mix of businesses including food and drink outlets, a barber shop, a retailer featuring locally made products, and an information hub linked to the Park Royal Design District.
All incoming businesses are expected to be accredited by the London Living Wage Foundation, committing to pay employees at least £13.85 per hour.
The Republic Community Projects, a local arts and cultural organisation, will oversee management of the retail spaces. The initiative is part of a broader effort to integrate creative industry activity from Park Royal into North Acton.
Construction work has already begun, with the retail structures installed and further enhancements—such as upgraded lighting and landscaping—anticipated in the near term. A new social space, the “village hut,” is also planned to serve residents, workers, and visitors.
The project is being delivered through a partnership involving Ealing Council, the Old Oak and Park Royal Development Corporation, The Republic Community Projects, Imperial College London, City & Docklands, ADD Properties, and Downing.
Council representatives have cited community input as a key influence on the design and purpose of the revitalised square. According to Council Leader Peter Mason, the plans reflect feedback gathered during public engagement exercises conducted in 2021.
Additional events and activities are expected to be announced in the coming months, with the council indicating that further opportunities for public participation will be made available as the space evolves.
