Police release e-fit after attacks in Acton

Information sought concerning 5 linked indecent assaults

Ealing Police have release an e-fit picture (left) of a man they would like to question in relation to a linked series of Indecent Assault offences which have occurred in the Acton area recently.

There have been a series of five indecent assaults in the Acton Area since November 2003.

The latest linked incident occurred in Shalimar Gardens, W3 at around 6 o'clock in the evening on 17th January 2003. The victim, a 31 year old, white female) had alighted the train at Acton Main Line and walked to Shalimar Gardens via Horn Lane. Upon reaching her address she began to search for the keys of her property when a male fitting the E-fit description approached her and asked for the time.

The victim told him the time and proceeded to turn away from the suspect and began to open the main entrance to her property when she was subjected to an indecent assault. The victim reacted by pushing the suspect away at which point the suspect ran off and was last seen heading towards Julian Avenue W3.

The suspect was described by the victim of this latest offence as a Black male, aged between 16-18yrs, approx 5’ 04” – 5’ 06” in height, with black curly hair, a thin build, wearing a blue bomber style jacket which comes down to the top of his thighs and dark trousers.

Ealing Police would ask anyone with any information about this incident or who may recognise the suspect from the E-fit to contact DC Chalmers in The Sapphire Unit at Southall Police Station on telephone number 020-8246-1139a or alternatively Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Police would also like to appeal to any victims of unreported sexual assaults, which may have occurred in this area to contact them at the Sapphire Office at Southall Police Station on telephone number 020-8246-1145 or alternatively Crimestoppers 0800 555 111.

The best way to cut the risk of attack is by taking sensible precautions. Most people already do this as part of their everyday lives, often without realising it.

• If you often walk home in the dark, get a personal attack alarm from a DIY store or ask your local crime prevention officer where you can buy one. Carry it in your hand so you can use it immediately to scare off an attacker. Make sure it is designed to continue sounding if it’s dropped or falls to the ground.

• Carry your bag close to you with the clasp facing inwards. Carry your house keys in your pocket. If someone grabs your bag, let it go. If you hang on, you could get hurt. Remember your safety is more important than your property.

• If you think someone is following you, check by crossing the street – more than once if necessary – to see if he follows. If you are still worried, get to the nearest place where there are other people – a pub or anywhere with a lot of lights on – and call the police. Avoid using an enclosed phonebox in the street, as the attacker could trap you inside.

Ealing police would also like to state that the chance that you or a member of your family will be a victim of violent crime is low.
