Call for volunteers to help clean up
Almost two months ago I wrote about the litter in Acton Park. Yesterday afternoon, at around 5.30 I found it difficult to walk around the park with any pleasure at all as drifts of rubbish, cans, empty bottles, cartons, fast food rubbish were everywhere. Today, nothing much had changed and I went back with my litterpick and managed to pick up almost 3 bags of rubbish before becoming bored.
It would be interesting to know how many fixed penalty notices have been handed out by Park rangers in recent weeks.
I also wondered how many times today the bins had been emptied and whether the park had been litterpicked at all in the past 24 hours.
I talked before about the inaccessible bin in the grounds of the new Carousel nursery next to the play hut. It's still there. The staff told me they are waiting for the Council to take it away. I wonder how long this will take. If I worked there, I would want to create a good impression, so I'd pick up the rubbish (I can't reach it with my litterpick.) The bin is pictured right. It speaks for itself.
Other blackspots are pictured right.
There is something to celebrate: the planting beside the bowling green looks spectacularly lovely. It is a huge success and a credit to the park.
I think it is now time to start collecting names of people who would be willing to give, say, an hour a week or a month or a year - whatever time they can spare to help to keep Acton Park tidy. Please post your names onto the Forum thread and watch this space.
