Man Swears at Football Match Shock

I see one of the tabloids is running a story about local MP Steve Pound, a sometime contributor to this forum. He used bad language at a football match recently. He has admitted to doing so but categorically denied calling Sol Campbell a 'fairy'. What I fail to understand is why anyone who attended a football match would see fit to complain about bad language. I go quite a lot and don't tend to swear but a large proportion of the people around me do. If you are offended by swearing you shouldn't go near a football ground. It's part of the enjoyment for many people to let off steam like this and I think we are lucky to have an MP in the area who shares the likes, interests and habits of a significant proportion of the people he represents unlike most people elected to the House of Commons.

It's tame to how it used to be.I used to watch WASPs at Sudbury. The abuse and barracking those players got in the 80s from just a handful of rugby afficionados was amazing, I always half expected a player or three to come over and give them what for...except it was usually a parent or coach of subjected player!!

I first attended the top games in the sixties. I have been to all London preimership stadia except Craven Cottage. I have been to QPR and Brentford too. Brentford and West Ham were the worst for foul language.

Suspect neither of you have ever been to a football match. Bad language is endemic. I don't tend to use it but understand that the more passionate and engaged supporters go to games precisely because it allows them to let off a bit of steam. In this context one person, even an MP, using a few swear words is not significant.

If you take your children to a match you do not want them surrounded by the kind of language you find unacceptable.
